What Keepsafe is
Keepsafe has been on the App Store since April 2012 and is published by KeepSafe Software, Inc. It is listed as Secret Photo Vault: Keepsafe, with a 4.7 rating from about 382,000 ratings, a 205 MB download, and a 4+ age rating. The listing leads with the size of its user base, a PIN pad, Touch ID and Face ID, custom albums, an integrated camera and photo backup.
How it protects your photos
The developer’s product page names AES-256 for device storage and private backup without specifying the mode. Kryptis uses AES-256-GCM, which encrypts contents and detects tampering. The broader AES-256 label alone does not establish which mode Keepsafe uses. This documentation was rechecked September 26, 2026; the listing, prices and rating counts elsewhere below retain the September 6 snapshot. Premium adds Album Lock, a separate PIN for individual albums, and break-in tracking. A fake PIN that opens a decoy space appears in Keepsafe's Google Play listing as a Premium feature.
A disguised app icon is not part of this app. Keepsafe sells a separate Calculator Vault app for that.
Where your photos go
Keepsafe's Private Cloud is the centre of the product. The listing says Premium stores up to 10,000 items in the cloud, syncs your vault to every Keepsafe installation you sign in to, and offers Space Saver, which keeps the original in the cloud and a compressed copy on the phone. Safe Send shares a photo for a limited time through Keepsafe.

What the listing does not mention
Keepsafe's sources do not mention a self-destruct passcode, a disguised icon inside the app, face blur, downloading from a link, transfer from a computer without a cloud, a recovery key that you hold, an encrypted backup in your own iCloud, burner email, private contacts, or sub-albums. Who Keepsafe suits
Keepsafe suits someone who wants the vault mirrored across devices, does not mind an account, and treats the cloud as the point. Check the local locking and cloud settings against your own needs.
Kryptis instead
Kryptis is an upcoming option from Tuvo Labs, the publisher of this review. Every photo, video and file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM on the device before it is stored, along with its metadata. The local vault does not require an account. Optional network features have separate data flows described in our privacy policy. A second passcode opens a decoy vault with its own albums, a third erases everything, and failed unlocks are recorded. Backup goes to your own iCloud, already encrypted, and the only way back in after a lost passcode is the BIP39 recovery phrase you were given at setup.
