Private Photo Vault alternatives: what to pick if the privacy label bothers you

Private Photo Vault is the most-rated vault on the App Store and its lock story is good. Its privacy label lists your photos, identifiers and usage as linked to you, and its listing only describes encryption for the optional cloud. If either of those is why you are here, these are the alternatives.

The short answer

For a vault whose privacy label lists nothing linked to you, look at Kryptis, Hide it Pro, Safe Lock or Locker. For one that also keeps the decoy and break-in features you liked, Safe Lock has both; Kryptis has a full decoy vault, intruder alerts and a self-destruct passcode on top of named encryption.

Why people look for an alternative

Under Data Linked to You, Private Photo Vault's label lists Purchases, User Content (Photos or Videos), Identifiers, Usage Data and Diagnostics, with Usage Data also under Data Used to Track You. Encryption appears in the listing once, for the Cloud Vault. Premium runs from $6.99 to $39.99. Full review.

Kryptis

Named encryption on the phone, no account, a decoy vault, self-destruct, intruder alerts with a photo, a private camera with face blur, and a privacy label with nothing linked to you. Coming to the App Store.

Safe Lock

The closest match on features: fake gallery, break-in reports with photos, a hidden camera, and a developer who says it collects no data. Encryption is mentioned but not named, and there is no recovery key or self-destruct. Review.

Locker

Simple, cheap, nothing collected, nothing uploaded. No decoy, no encryption wording, no recovery. Review.

Hide it Pro

Nothing in the privacy label beyond diagnostics, a fake crash and an escape code. No encryption wording, and a password reset sold for $4.99. Review.

Privault

A decoy folder and an erase-all passcode with no cloud, but usage data is listed as tracked. Review.

Moving out of Private Photo Vault

Export albums to the camera roll, import into the new vault, delete from Photos and Recently Deleted. If you used the Cloud Vault, delete the items there before cancelling Premium.
