How to download videos from a link on iPhone without them landing in Photos

On an iPhone, a downloaded video normally lands in Photos or Files, which means iCloud, backups, widgets and search. Kryptis downloads a public photo, video or stream from a pasted link straight into the encrypted vault, and nothing else on the phone ever sees it.

The short answer

Copy the link, open Kryptis, choose Download from Link, paste, start. The media is fetched by the phone and encrypted into the vault. It never touches the camera roll, the Files app or a browser download folder.

Why the usual ways are not private

Shortcuts and downloader apps save to Photos, so the video syncs to iCloud Photos, appears in Recents and widgets, and goes into backups. Browser downloads land in Files, which is indexed by search and synced by iCloud Drive. Either way you then have to delete the copy, then delete it from Recently Deleted, and hope you got all of them.

  1. Copy the link to a public photo, video or stream.
  2. In Kryptis, open Download from Link and paste it.
  3. Start the download. You can leave the screen; reopen it to see progress.
  4. The finished file appears in the vault, encrypted with AES-256-GCM like everything else.

The phone fetches the media directly. There is no Kryptis server in the middle.

What it supports

Public media. Private links, content behind a login, and some sites are not supported, and Kryptis says so when a link cannot be downloaded rather than failing quietly.

Keep it that way

Once a file is in the vault, share it out only when you mean to. Sharing to Photos or Messages creates a copy outside the vault.
